“Incorrect password”

What it means: the app didn’t accept what reached the password field. Before you assume you’ve forgotten it, rule out a typing or autofill slip.

“Forgot password”

What it means: the reset option on the sign-in screen. Its wording and position can differ between builds, for example “Forgot password?” or “Reset”.

Quick fix

Type the password by hand once

Clear anything autofill put in the field. Turn on the show-password eye if there is one, check for capitals, then type slowly.
Switch to a one-time code

If the sign-in screen offers an OTP option, use it with your registered mobile number. You skip the password entirely. Codes not arriving? See Y1.com OTP not received.
Use the forgot-password option

If neither works, start a reset from the sign-in screen and set a new password, as described below.

An OTP sign-in gets you into the same account without the password, if your build offers it. Pick the code option, key in your registered mobile number and use the SMS code while it is fresh.

How the reset usually works

A reset proves you still control the registered number, then lets you choose a new password. Button names may differ in your version; the order of steps is what matters.

Tap the forgot-password option

It normally sits near the password field on the sign-in screen.
Enter your registered number

Use the exact number you signed up with, without an extra 0 if the field already includes the country code.
Request and enter the code

Tap send once and wait. Repeated taps can trigger more codes, and only the latest may work.
Set the new password

Type it twice, with the show-password option on so you can spot mistakes.
Sign in fresh

Go back to the sign-in screen and try the new password straight away, so you know the change saved.

Autofill, Caps Lock and saved-password traps

Many rejected passwords are typed or filled incorrectly rather than forgotten. Check these before you reset again:

Autofill from Google Password Manager or your keyboard still holds last month’s password.
The keyboard auto-capitalised the first letter.
A trailing space was added by a suggestion strip.
Your keyboard switched to Hindi or another input language.
You saved the password under a different number’s entry.

Choose a password you won’t need to reset again

A long, unique password is safest, and a password manager removes the need to memorise it. Avoid your name, birth date, mobile number or anything used on another app.

A short phrase of four unrelated words is easier to type than random symbols and still hard to guess. Save it in Google Password Manager or a similar tool, and make sure your phone has a screen lock.

When the registered number is no longer yours

A lost or recycled SIM means reset codes go to someone else, so only customer service can help. If you are signed in on any phone, open the Wallet and tap the headset icon.

Explain that the number changed, and provide whatever proof customer service asks for. The operator decides whether to move the account to a new number. Please don’t open a second account meanwhile; it can complicate the case.

Don’t include the old password, the new password or any OTP in that message. A reset code is for the screen in front of you, nowhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reset my Y1.com password if I no longer have the old SIM?

Not through the normal reset, because the code goes to the registered number. If you are still signed in on any phone, use the headset icon on the Wallet to explain. Otherwise look for a help option near the sign-in screen. Customer service decides whether to change the number and may ask for proof.

Why is my new password rejected right after a reset?

Autofill is the usual culprit. Your phone or browser may still be filling in the old saved password. Clear the field, type the new one by hand with the show-password option on, and check the keyboard isn’t in capitals. Update or delete the saved entry afterwards.

Is a password manager a good idea for my Y1.com account?

Yes, as long as your phone has a screen lock. A password manager lets you use a long, unique password without memorising it. Google Password Manager is built into most Android phones. Don’t store the password in a notes app or send it to yourself on chat.
